Searching the Beckley Court Docket
Look first at who issued the paperwork. If it names the City of Beckley or cites a Beckley ordinance, the case likely sits in Municipal Court. A state-law charge is different. Even one issued inside Beckley usually belongs in Raleigh County Magistrate Court. Felony prosecutions move to Circuit Court after transfer. Search with the narrowest identifier you can. Then match the court, county, case number, date, and caption before trusting what a screen shows you.
- Read the notice for the court name and issuing agency.
- For a Beckley ordinance matter, open the official municipal search.
- Use the citation number where possible and check the status.
- For state-law matters, search MCRS or call the Magistrate Clerk.
- Confirm the next hearing with the clerk shown on the notice.
A dead end online is not proof that no record exists. Older files, restricted records, fresh filings, and papers never imaged for the web may take a phone call, a letter, or a trip to the counter. The Raleigh County case lookup walks through the county tools in more depth.
Beckley Docket Search Fields
The official Beckley municipal portal offers several ways to pull up a citation account. Some of those fields ask for sensitive data. Choose carefully. The citation number printed on your own notice is the narrowest, safest key. One more caution applies. Never post a birth date, Social Security number, license number, or anyone else's data in a public message when asking for help.
| Route | Fields shown | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Citation | Number and birth date | Best for the cited person |
| Driver license | Number, state, birth date | Use only on the official portal |
| Vehicle | Plate and state | Match the case to the notice |
| Name | First, last, birth date | Check common-name matches |
| Business | Business name | For an organization caption |
The portal does offer a Social Security number search path, but public guidance should not push anyone toward it. The official portal source supplies the image assigned to this page.

What that page shows is one access point, not the whole Beckley court file. Pleadings and certified copies may still require a request to the clerk who keeps them.
Beckley Municipal Court Basics
Beckley Municipal Court handles alleged violations of city ordinances inside Beckley. Its own description lists traffic, assault and battery, disorderly conduct, vandalism, and loitering. It also lists theft or shoplifting. Building and fire code cases appear there too. That list is not exhaustive, and it does not reach state charges. Those stay in state courts. The court sits at 169 Industrial Drive, Beckley, WV 25801. Reach the clerk at 304-256-1719 or MunicipalCourt@Beckley.org. Hours run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a noon to 1 p.m. closure. Sessions are Monday and Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., except holidays and emergency closures. When timing matters, call first.

Beckley Docket Routes Compared
Three routes answer three different Beckley docket questions. The city portal covers municipal citations and accounts, MCRS carries public Magistrate case information, and WVPASS serves public Circuit Court searches and documents. A city name alone opens none of them. What matters for a docket search is the charge and the court caption, not where the event happened.
| Route | Typical matter | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Municipal portal | Beckley ordinance citation | Not a complete case file |
| MCRS | State traffic, misdemeanor, small claim | Up to 30 results; not all documents |
| WVPASS | Public Circuit matter | Coverage and documents vary |
When a portal comes up empty, go to the right clerk. The Circuit Clerk holds Circuit and Family records. The Magistrate Clerk takes Magistrate questions and copy requests. Note: An account balance is not the same thing as a full chronological Beckley docket.
Court Dates and Settings in Beckley
Check any municipal setting against the citation, the city account, and the Municipal Court clerk. Monday and Wednesday sessions give broad context, but not every case lands on every session. Holidays, closures, continuances, and court orders can all move a date. A continuance shifts a hearing. It does not erase a charge. For a Magistrate case, MCRS may show a CASE EVENT SCHEDULE listing the event, date, time, location, judge, and a reason closed. Be careful reading it. "Closed" beside one event does not always mean the whole case ended.
| Date | The scheduled day for the event |
|---|---|
| Time | The listed start time, subject to confirmation |
| Location | The room or court site |
| Judge | The officer linked to the setting |
| Reason closed | Why an event ended, when supplied |
Treat the official notice as your main instruction. If a screen and the notice disagree, call the clerk before you travel.
Beckley Docket Payment Warnings
Paying and searching a record are two separate acts. Beckley's own instructions warn that a person planning to plead not guilty should not pay. Criminal charges require an appearance. Skip it and you may face added fines or a driver's-license suspension, so an uncertain date always warrants a call to the clerk.
Contest before paying: Contact Beckley Municipal Court before payment if the citation will be challenged. Payment may resolve the account rather than preserve a contest.
The portal lists a $2.50 online fee plus a 3.25% credit-card fee. Those are payment charges, not the cost of a docket or a certified copy. Beckley also warns that warrant updates can take 24 to 48 hours after payment, so anyone with a warrant question should get direct confirmation from the court.
Traffic Tickets in Beckley
Not every ticket written in Beckley goes to Municipal Court. A city-ordinance citation uses the municipal route. A state-law charge generally lands in Magistrate Court. Read the caption before you search or pay. The Magistrate payment tool asks for a Citation ID, Case ID, or Payment Plan ID. MCRS supplies the case information. Neither tool replaces the notice itself. If you plan to contest the ticket, ask the named court about plea and hearing steps first. Countywide routes appear in the Raleigh County traffic ticket records. Note: No Beckley red-light-camera docket exists in any official source, so do not assume a camera-ticket process.
Beckley Docket and County Scale
Beckley is the seat of Raleigh County and its largest incorporated place in the Census table. The 2020 count was 17,286. That figure is a census snapshot, not a current estimate. Size helps explain why Beckley supports several record offices. Population never decides where a case gets filed.
The official place table supplies the vintage, not a case or litigant count.
Where Beckley Cases Go
Beckley cases do not all pass through Municipal Court. City ordinance cases begin on that route. State misdemeanors and traffic charges usually open in Magistrate Court instead. A felony preliminary can later show a bind-over or transfer to Circuit Court, while civil and family matters follow their own jurisdiction rules.
Docket flow: Beckley ordinance case › Beckley Municipal Court; state misdemeanor or traffic case › Raleigh County Magistrate Court; transferred felony › Raleigh County Circuit Court.
Circuit, Family, and Magistrate offices all sit in the Judicial Center at 222 Main Street. The County Clerk is at 215 Main Street. That office keeps deeds, liens, recorded judgments, wills, and county records. One judgment can take two searches. The court entry is one record. The recorded instrument is another. They do not always sit together.
Beckley Court Record Counters
Two clerks hold the Raleigh County counters. The Circuit Clerk, at 222 Main Street, P.O. Box 2518, Beckley, WV 25802, handles Circuit and Family material and takes calls at 304-255-9135. The Magistrate Clerk sits in the Judicial Center; reach that office at 304-255-9197 for Magistrate entries and copies.
Ask for the public docket sheet, the exact entries, and any final order or disposition. Give the case number, court level, date range, and format. Say whether you want a plain or certified copy. Mail and counter access still help. Use them when the online record lacks an image. Confirm fees and delivery terms first.
Beckley Court Record Access Rules
West Virginia law starts from open inspection of court records. But limits apply. Sealed files stay closed. Personal data, juvenile matters, and parts of family cases may also be withheld or redacted, and a public event line does not make each underlying document open. Ask the clerk about a precise item.
Key rules:
West Virginia Code § 51-4-2 provides the broad inspection and clerk-copy rule, subject to other law.
West Virginia FOIA § 29B-1-3 addresses public requests, inspection, and actual reproduction costs.
West Virginia Code § 49-5-103 protects covered juvenile records.
Keep the request narrow. Search by case number, not by excess personal data. If a record seems absent, ask whether it is confidential, transferred, archived, or missing only from the online search.
Beckley Federal Docket Boundary
A federal case tied to Beckley will not appear in the city portal, MCRS, or WVPASS. Remember that boundary. When a caption names the United States, a federal agency, or the United States District Court, you are in federal territory. The Southern District of West Virginia runs a Beckley location at the Robert C. Byrd Federal Building, 110 North Heber Street, Room 119. Public federal dockets live in PACER and with federal clerk resources.
Search the court named on the notice. Do not force a federal caption into a city or county system just because the event occurred in Beckley.
PACER is a federal access service. Its account and fee rules are its own. It is not the Beckley municipal search. It does not confirm a city citation. The Southern District clerk is the right contact for a federal certified copy, an older federal file, or a docket item that will not open online. Start with that office. Appeals from that district generally go to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. That court keeps a separate federal docket. Keep the court name, division, case number, and document date together in any request. That habit prevents a local clerk from receiving a request for a file only the federal court maintains.
